SMMSA @ Cumberland Fair
SMMSA operates a fully functional sugarhouse at the Cumberland Fairgrounds. It is becoming a destination exhibit at the Fair where the public can learn more about how we do what we do, taste maple cotton candy and maple syrup over ice cream, and purchase maple syrup as well as an array of products made with maple syrup.
Full members have the opportunity to consign maple syrup and value-added products to the sugarhouse - this is a great opportunity to market your sugarhouse to a potentially new audience. By displaying a variety of products, we are promoting what can be done with maple. Consignors return 10% of their sales to the association and commit to staffing the sugarhouse during the week. We also look forward to help from others who are not consigning but are willing to spend some time with us. This helps to ensure the sugarhouse is properly staffed. Sharing information, insight, and a love of maple with the public gets people excited about all that maple has to offer - it's fun!
Field Trips for youth from many school districts near the fair occur throughout the week with an estimated 1,000+ kids making their way through the sugarhouse. They are typically on an information scavenger hunt so are full of questions! Tuesday is Senior Citizen Day and Wednesday also sees a lot of kids since they have ½ price midway tickets that day. Friday is Maple Day at the sugarhouse - this is a full day of demonstrations and sampling. It is guaranteed to be well-attended and busy.
